What is LCFA inhibition?

Long-chain fatty acids released from fats, oils and grease adsorb onto microbial cell walls and inhibit methanogenesis, causing a lag or a stall even though the fat itself is energy-rich. Fat-rich feeds are therefore added carefully and usually co-digested at controlled ratios.
