About cbg-sim

A compressed biogas plant is a supply-chain problem wearing a chemical engineer’s clothes. Most of the ways one fails — feedstock that does not arrive, a digester loaded past what the biology will take, a co-product treated as waste — are visible long before anybody pours concrete, and they are visible in arithmetic. cbg-sim is that arithmetic, made something you can push on.

What it does

You wire a plant on a canvas — feedstock into a digester, gas through an upgrader, the product to a buyer — and it runs a steady-state model of the whole thing: daily gas and CBG at IS 16087 spec, digestate and the other co-products, capital cost, the revenue stack, margin and payback, and the well-to-tank carbon intensity. The process envelope and the supply calendar move as you change it, so a plant that cannot actually be fed says so rather than quietly averaging the year.

It is free, and building does not need an account. An account only buys you somewhere to keep what you built.

What it refuses to do

It is steady-state and lumped-parameter. There is no time-step simulation, no microbial population dynamics, no explicit ammonia or VFA inhibition, no hydraulics inside the vessel, and no financing structure. It will not replace a DPR and it is not trying to. The full list of exclusions, the calibration against Verbio Lehragaga and Reliance Kanigiri, and every equation are in the methodology.

Every number says where it came from

This sector’s public figures move: the CBG procurement price changed three times between 2018 and 2026, registered plants outnumber commissioned ones roughly nine to one, and a blending obligation is routinely reported as installed capacity. So nothing here is asserted flatly. Each of the 212 figures behind the 23 components carries its status beside it — cited, derived, projected, or waiting on a citation — and 3 of them are published and sourced today. The same rule governs the 258 answers in Learn, where 7 are flagged as thin evidence rather than repeated confidently.

Who this is for

Developers sizing a first plant, lenders and analysts testing somebody else’s numbers, FPOs and mill operators working out whether their residue is worth a plant at all, and students who want the sector to make sense before they are asked to have an opinion on it. India-first throughout: the prices, the policy, the feedstocks and the cost basis are Indian.

Sourcing and suppliers

The catalogue can tell you what a machine does, what it draws and what it does to your capex. It cannot yet tell you who sells you one, and that is the next thing it should be able to do. Every component card carries a sourcing slot for exactly that: vendor, capacity, region and indicative lead time.

Two rules govern it before there is a single listing in it. Sourcing renders below the modelled figures and never inside them, so a paid placement can never outrank a cited number. Who runs it

cbg-sim is built and maintained by ClimateWise climatewise.today. It is v0.1 beta: the model is calibrated and the arithmetic is documented, but figures still carry the provenance flags above, and you should read them before quoting anything in a document somebody will act on.
